In this article, we give our top 5 GW24 FPL picks and identify which players could return big FPL points. We didn’t get round to posting our GW23 picks so no review this week unfortunately.
With the upcoming Liverpool fixtures and recent form of Salah, he could easily feature in every ‘Top 5’ article. Salah produced his 7th double digit haul of the season in GW23, his 6th in his last 8 league games.
Liverpool face Leicester in GW24, who come into the match off the back of a 4-3 loss against Wolves. Prior to the loss, Leicester had a decent away defensive record, conceding 13 goals in 12 matches. However, with the recent form of Leicester it looks a brilliant opportunity for Salah to add to his goal tally.
Liverpool meanwhile have maintained a amazing home league record, winning 10 of their 11 matches. They have scored 31 goals in these matches, with Salah directly contributing to 13 of these goals.
Salah has scored 6 goals in his last 6 league matches, and has remained a continuous goal threat with 14 shots and 12 key passes over this period. We think Salah will continue his great form and should be a front runner for captaincy with his favourable fixture.
Salah has three fantastic fixtures coming up, and should be in the minds of all owners when looking to captain. His high ownership means that any other option becomes a calculated risk in some way, with any haul potentially having a big impact on their ranks.
Aubameyang has been in many conversations over the past week after his back to back blanks. Question marks have been raised to whether Lacazette can cover Aubameyang after the Frenchman’s stunning goal against Chelsea. We have teamed up with guest FPL accounts to analyse this topic further.
However, for GW24 we believe Aubameyang will return to goal scoring form at home to Cardiff. He is still averaging an impressive 2.94 shots/90 and having already scored 14 league goals, his xG is 13.76. While it is known that he has missed the most big chances in the league, it is clear that he is still one of the best goal scorers in the league.
Arsenal have a good home record, scoring 26 goals in 12 games and Aubameyang contributing in 11 of these. Cardiff meanwhile have the second worst defensive record, conceding 44 goals in 23 league matches. While their away defensive record is slightly better, we expect Arsenal and Aubameyang to put a few past the Bluebirds.
Pogba has been one of the biggest price risers this season, starting from £7.8m in GW18 and now valued £8.7m. His price rise has been a reflection of his form under Solskjear, scoring 5 goals and 5 assists in 6 league games. Over this period, he has accumulated 62 points which is more than he achieved between GW1 – 17 (51 points).
Man United face Burnley at home in GW24, hoping to get their 7th straight league victory. United have been in brilliant home form, scoring 9 goals in their 3 matches under Solskjear, with Pogba scoring 5 of these. Burnley previously had one of the worst defensive records in the league, however their recent form has been good. They have won 3 and drawn 1 of their last 4 league matches, conceding only 2 goals.
Although Burnley will make it hard for United, we believe United will be too strong and going by recent form will score a few goals. The added bonus of Pogba on set pieces sees him edge Rashford as one of the ‘top 5’ picks for GW24.
Spurs fell to a 2-1 loss against Chelsea in the Carabao cup Thursday night, losing the tie eventually on penalties. For those who watched, it was clear that they were significantly missing their main players including Kane, Son and Alli.
Eriksen will be the player that Spurs will turn to for the inspiration throughout this period. Eriksen has been consistently returning FPL points, averaging 6.3 points in his last 7 league matches. Over this period, he has scored 4 goals and registered 2 assists, including 13 shots and 11 key passes.
Spurs face Watford at home in GW24, looking to bounce back from their back to back cup loses. Watford have a decent away record, conceding 14 goals in 11 away league games, winning 4 of these.
Although Spurs have been struggling of late without their star players, we think Eriksen will step up to help guide Spurs to a much needed league victory. The return of Son from the Asian Cup should boost their attacking threat if fit, but if there was a Spurs asset to own it would be Eriksen.
Hazard has been the definition of an ‘FPL Troll’ this season, recently confirming this status with no goal in his last 4 league matches. However, the signing on Higuain has excited some owners and raised a few eyebrows for those that have already sold him.
Over these 4 matches, he has produced 8 shots and 9 key passes including an assist in GW22 against Newcastle. However, he has only got an xG of 0.53 over these 4 matches, a worry that has seen him sold heavily over this period.
Chelsea face Bournemouth away in GW24, who have been in a tricky run of form recently. They have conceded 17 goals in 12 home matches, scoring 21 in the meantime. It suggests an open game that Chelsea haven’t had over the past few GW’s, something we expect Hazard to capitalise on. Half of his league goals have come away from home, and Chelsea have a decent record scoring 19 goals in 11 away matches.
Although we don’t see Hazard as a realistic captain option, with the arrival of Higuain and the attacking nature of Bournemouth, we expect Hazard to have more attacking opportunities than in previous GW’s.
