Top 5 GW17 FPL Picks

In this article, we give our top 5 GW17 FPL picks and identify which players could return big FPL points. We didn’t get round to posting our GW16 picks so no review this week unfortunately.

Harry Kane (£12.5m)

Harry Kane by all accounts is having a great season, already scoring 9 goals and assisting 3. His ownership has soared over the past few game weeks with Spurs’s fixtures looking very good for the coming month.

Tottenham face Burnley this weekend at home, who have already conceded 17 goals in 8 away league matches. They are also conceding the most shots per game, averaging 20 which is the worst in the league.

Kane is averaging 3.37 shots per 90, and over 4.2 against teams in the bottom half of the league. We fancy both Spurs and Kane to get a few goals this weekend and cap off a great week following their European match against Barcelona.

Kane is also a great captaincy option for FPL managers, and we expect him to be the highest picked for GW17. With Spur’s great fixtures over Christmas, Kane is not only a great captaincy option this week but also for the rest of the month.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.5m)

Aubameyang has been the fastest price riser of the season, going up £0.6m in the last 2 game weeks. This has been in light of his brace against Tottenham and Arsenal’s great fixtures coming up including home matches against Burnley and Fulham.

He is the leading forward points scorer (98) and the joint-top goal scorer with 10. Arsenal face Southampton this weekend, who are with their new manager at the helm. Arsenal have scored 12 goals in their 7 away league matches this season, and Aubameyang has scored half his goals away from home.

It looks like Aubameyang is currently Emery’s number 1 choice as striker, fighting off competition from Lacazette. Aubameyang has registered 14 shots and 5 key passes in his last 4 league matches, scoring 3 over this period. We fancy Aubameyang to retain his place and get on the scoresheet against a struggling Southampton team this weekend.

Raheem Sterling (£11.6m)

Sterling has been at the front of a big FPL debate this week, asking which premium midfielder is best to own over Christmas. We have had our say with fellow FPL accounts in our latest Q&A article.

Although Sterling blanked against Chelsea, he still created 2 shots and 2 key passes – it must be said the amazing performance of Azpelicueta in the second half. Man City face Everton at the Etihad this weekend, looking to bounce back from their first league defeat this season.

City have scored 30 goals in 8 home league matches, with Sterling directly contributing in 9 of these. Sterling is still averaging 2.56 shots/90 and 2.32 key passes/90, and we expect him to continue these impressive stats against Everton.

Everton are no push overs this season, but like a wounded animal, we expect Man City to win comfortably in this match and Sterling to be the main driving force. Similar to both Kane and Aubameyang, Sterling offers a great captaincy option both this weekend and over the Christmas period.

Raul Jimenez (£6.1m)

Jimenez was benched for Wolves’ 2-1 victory over Newcastle in GW16, coming on for the last 30 minutes. He did manage 3 shots however, including a thunderous effort that hit the crossbar.

Jimenez has been a regular goal threat, registering 14 shots in his last 4 league matches including 1 goal. Wolves look to have turned a corner after not winning their previous 6 league games, before back to back victories.

They face Bournemouth this weekend, and it is expected Jimenez will return to lead the frontline. Bournemouth haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 6 league matches, while Wolves haven’t kept one in their last 8. We are expecting a few goals in this match and think Jimenez will be at the heart of all the Wolves attacks.

Jose Holebas (£4.7m)

Watford were unfortunate to draw against Everton last weekend, conceding a last minute free kick by Digne. Watford haven’t won their last 6 league matches and find themselves in a rut, although the performance last weekend will boost confidences.

Holebas was an early FPL favourite, scoring 34 points in his opening 4 league matches. He has proven his attacking threat, scoring 2 and assisting 4 goals this season. Holebas is still averaging 0.54 shots/90 and 1.85 key passes/90, some decent stats for a defender.

Against Everton he produced 6 crosses and while they maintain there formation and use of the front 2, we think it’s only a matter of time until he gets his next assist.

They face Cardiff at home this weekend, who have averaged over 2 goals conceded a game away from home. Having only picked up 1 point on the road this season, we think that Watford will win this match and could be their first clean sheet since GW10.
