Welcome to our new series which looks at the top 3 FPL differential picks for the coming game week and beyond. In this series, we will be picking players that have a 5% or less ownership with the potential to score decent points.
Lingard (£6.8m) has started United’s last two matches but has not registered a goal or assist so far this season. This has led to the midfielders ownership dropping week on week, and is currently owned by only 3.3% of FPL managers.
Although Lingard has yet to perform from an FPL perspective, his underlying stats are looking promising for future returns. In the last 2 matches, he has had 8 shots and 2 key passes showing that he is still proving a goal threat for Manchester United.
United also have some favourable fixtures coming up, with the trickiest over the next 4 being this game week against Watford. United however have had the most shots than any other team over the past 2 matches, suggesting they are offering plenty of goal threat. And against teams such as Wolves and Newcastle at home over the next 4 game weeks, Lingard could score some significant points over the period.
Ben Chilwell (£5.0m) appeared for his first international cap over the break and reminded some FPL managers of his quality. At 0.7%, it is unusual to find a player of his quality in a decent team at the ownership he is. Left backs have proven to be the star players on the game with the likes of Mendy, Robertson and Alonso. At a budget price in comparison, we think Chilwell could return some healthy returns over the coming fixtures.
Chilwell has had 3 shots and made 4 key passes over the opening 4 matches – promising stats for the Englishman. Leicester are now entering a run of favourable fixtures over the next month:
We fancy Chilwell to pick up a clean sheet along the way and maybe even an assist or goal. And for Luke Shaw owners, he is a great replacement if the injury appears to be worse than expected.
Mateo Kovacic (£6.0m) takes our final place in this weeks top 3 differential list. The summer signing has established has place in the midfield 3 of Chelsea and seems to have adapted to Sarri’s style. Plenty of FPL managers have flocked to owning Chelsea’s other 2 midfielders Jorginho (14.7%) and Kante (22%), but seem to have avoided Kovacic with only a 1% ownership. Both Kante and Jorginho are almost £1.0m cheaper than Kovacic, but the stats for the Croatian are quite impressive.
He has only started two matches, but has already registered in total 6 shots and 5 key passes in those games. In comparison, Jorginho has only had 2 shots, 1 key pass over the 2 games, while Kante has had 0 shots and 0 key passes. Kovacic’s heat map shows that he operates regularly in the final third but not necessarily in the box, taking all his shots outside the box.
Chelsea play Cardiff this weekend who conceded three goals against Arsenal in GW4. At home, we fancy Chelsea to score big against Cardiff and for Kovacic to spring a surprise for many FPL managers, and put his name in the discussion.
Hopefully this article has provided some helpful tips and alternatives to what have already been discussed in the FPL community. This series will be back next week with 3 more differential picks for you to consider. We have also released our Top 5 GW5 Picks which include players that we think will score the biggest points this weekend.
